About Artless Glow Base SPF50+

Overview

Artless Glow Base SPF50+ is a lightweight sunscreen from Heimish, a brand based in Korea. It is rated SPF 50+. Its job is UV protection, with the rest of the formula working on hydration. The ingredient list runs to 30 ingredients, each broken down in full below.

Texture and finish

By its ingredient list the formula reads as light: water and humectants lead, with emollients kept lower in the order. Hydration is handled by Butylene Glycol, Water and Hydrogenated Lecithin, humectants that pull water into the upper layers of skin rather than sealing it there.

UV filter system

It uses a hybrid filter system — Octinoxate, Octisalate, Ensulizole, Octocrylene, Uvinul A Plus, Avobenzone and Titanium Dioxide — combining mineral and organic filters. Between them those filters cover UVB, UVA II and UVA I, so the formula is broad-spectrum in the meaningful sense: it reaches past 340 nm, where the ageing wavelengths sit. The formula contains a photounstable filter alongside a stabiliser, which is the standard and effective way to keep it from degrading in sunlight.

What the formula does

Hydration: High. Ingredients that pull and hold water in the upper layers of skin, and here that comes from Butylene Glycol, Water, Hydrogenated Lecithin and Glyceryl Stearate.

Who it suits

On richness alone it suits Balanced skin best, and is the least natural fit for Dry and Combination (dry) skin. Nothing in the list is flagged as a common irritant, which is a reasonable starting point for reactive skin — though a patch test is still the only way to know.

What it does not target

The formula contributes little or nothing on antioxidant protection, cell renewal and firmness signalling. That is not a fault — most products are not meant to do everything — but if one of those is your priority, this is not the product that will address it.

What is not in it

Reading the full list, the formula is no drying alcohol, paraben-free, silicone-free, microplastic-free, sulfate-free and oil-free. Those claims come from the ingredient list itself, not from the packaging. It does contain fragrance and essential oils, worth knowing if your skin reacts to any of them.

Where it fits in a routine

Use it in the morning. In a routine it goes final morning step, before makeup. Apply about two finger-lengths for the face and neck — under-application is the single most common reason sunscreen underperforms. Reapply every two hours of sun exposure, and after swimming or towelling off. Let it set for a couple of minutes before makeup so it does not pill.

This summary is generated from the product's ingredient list. It is not a review, it is not the brand's own marketing claims, and it does not replace advice from a dermatologist.

Generation
First-generation UVB filter
Approved in
EU, UK, Korea, Japan, US — banned in Hawaii and Key West
Maximum permitted level
Up to 10% (EU), 7.5% (US)

Efficient UVB absorber that degrades in sunlight on its own, and destabilises avobenzone when the two are formulated together without a quencher.

Octisalate

ethylhexyl salicylate
Protects from
UVB (290–320 nm)
Photostable
Yes — photostable
Generation
First-generation UVB filter

Approved worldwide
Maximum permitted level
Up to 5% (EU, US)

A weak filter used mainly as a solvent — it dissolves the crystalline filters (avobenzone, oxybenzone) so they can be formulated at all.

Ensulizole

phenylbenzimidazole sulfonic acid
Protects from
UVB (290–320 nm)
Photostable
Yes — photostable
Generation
First-generation UVB filter

Approved worldwide
Maximum permitted level
Up to 8% (EU), 4% (US)

Water-soluble, which makes it the filter of choice for gel and lotion textures that have to feel weightless.

Octocrylene

octocrylene
Protects from
UVB (290–320 nm), UVA II (320–340 nm)
Photostable
Yes — photostable
Generation
Second-generation UVB filter
Approved in

Maximum permitted level
Up to 10% (EU, US)

Mostly present to stabilise avobenzone rather than for its own modest UVB coverage. Degrades slowly into benzophenone over a product's shelf life.

Uvinul A Plus

diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate
Protects from
UVA II (320–340 nm), UVA I (340–400 nm)
Photostable
Yes — photostable
Generation
Next-generation UVA filter
Approved in
EU, UK, Korea, Japan — not FDA-approved in the US
Maximum permitted level
Up to 10% (EU)

A photostable replacement for avobenzone: it peaks at 354 nm, deep in UVA I, and does not need a stabiliser to survive the day.

Avobenzone

butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane
Protects from
UVA II (320–340 nm), UVA I (340–400 nm)
Photostable
No — degrades in sunlight
Generation
Second-generation UVA filter
Approved in
Approved worldwide
Maximum permitted level
Up to 5% (EU), 3% (US)

The workhorse UVA filter, and the fragile one: it loses a large share of its protection within an hour of sun unless the formula pairs it with a stabiliser such as octocrylene or Tinosorb S.

Titanium Dioxide

titanium dioxide
Protects from
UVB (290–320 nm), UVA II (320–340 nm)
Photostable
Yes — photostable
Generation
Mineral (inorganic) filter

Maximum permitted level
Up to 25% (EU, US, KR)

Strong UVB and short-UVA protection, but it stops before UVA I — a mineral formula leaning on titanium dioxide alone needs zinc oxide beside it for deep UVA.

Safety and suitability

Flags to check, not verdicts. None of this is medical advice — if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or treating a skin condition, ask a doctor.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Nothing in this formula is on the standard pregnancy-caution list. That is not clearance — ask your doctor about anything you use daily.
Fungal acne (malassezia)
2 ingredients could feed malassezia: Peg-100 Stearate, Glyceryl Stearate. That is about the yeast's food supply, not a prediction that you will break out.
Sensitive and reactive skin
No ingredient in this formula carries a common-irritant flag, making it a reasonable option for reactive skin. A patch test is still recommended, as individual skin reactivity varies.
